About the process

Once your submission is made to the Federal Housing Advocate, you do not have to take any further action.

The Advocate will read your submission and consider how it relates to other people who have experienced the same issues related to adequate housing. The Advocate will then consider all of these issues together. The Advocate will submit an annual report to Parliament and make recommendations to improve these systemic housing issues for everyone.

If the Office of the Federal Housing Advocate requires more information from you, or if your issue is selected to be referred to the National Housing Council or for an Advocate-led review, we will contact you directly and provide more information at that time.

Information gathered from submissions will be used in compliance with the Privacy Act. It will also be reported to Parliament and the National Housing Council. Any identifiable or private information will remain confidential.
