The right to housing for people with disabilities: Calls to action - Text version

We are monitoring the right to adequate housing for people with disabilities in Canada. They face many barriers to housing. This needs to change.

27% of Canadians have a disability. That’s about 8 million people.Footnote 1

We have ideas about how to make things better. People with disabilities helped develop these ideas. We think people who make decisions about housing should do these things.

  1. Give more support to people with disabilities.
  2. Give more money to people with disabilities.
  3. Make housing cheaper.
  4. Make housing more accessible.
  5. Improve the way governments work together.
  6. Protect the health and safety of people with disabilities.
  7. Make sure rules and programs are inclusive.
  8. Stop discrimination and ableism.
  9. Don’t put people with disabilities in institutions.
  10. Make it easier for people with disabilities to have justice.
